Lift blockades at Imphal-Dimapur NH-2 highway: Amit Shah appeals to people of Manipur | Imphal News

New Delhi: Amit Shah

Union home minister Amit Shah on Sunday appealed to people of Manipur to lift blockades so essential items can reach people. “My sincerest appeal to the people of Manipur is to lift the blockades at the Imphal-Dimapur, NH-2 Highway, so that food, medicines, Petrol/Diesel, and other necessary items can reach the people,” tweeted Amit Shah. Shah also requested that Civil Society Organisations do the needful in bringing consensus. “Together only we can restore normalcy in this beautiful state,” Shah added.

The appeal comes amid the security advisor to the Manipur government, Kuldiep Singh, stating that peace is returning to the state after a wave of ethnic clashes and violence and normality is being restored.
On Saturday, Singh said that 35 more arms and ammunition were surrendered, in addition to over 140 arms and ammunition surrendered on Friday.

On the last day of his four-day visit to the Northeast state last week, Shah addressed a press conference in Imphal, urging all communities and sections of the society in violence-hit Manipur to maintain peace, hold discussions and promote harmony as well as surrender their weapons to the police.
The home minister had said peace and prosperity of Manipur are the government’s top priority and instructed them to strictly deal with any activities that disturb peace.
